Our History

The Beginning

In October 1995, Donald and Vyon Rogers founded the Pentecostals of Wisconsin (POW) with 43 people and a multicultural team of associate pastors. From the start, POW was a bilingual church—English and Spanish—and the first of its kind in the UPCI. It was built on six core values: Apostolic Doctrine, Biblical Warfare Worship, Christian Education, Inner Healing, Multicultural Evangelism, and Personal Prayer Development.

Continued Growth

POW quickly grew through prayer, fasting, and a commitment to healing and evangelism. After outgrowing its first location, the church moved to 2121 W. Wisconsin Ave. in 1996. When the landlord defaulted on the mortgage, the congregation miraculously raised $100,000 and secured a loan to purchase the building, which became home for the next 17 years.

Victory Christian Academy

In 1999, Victory Christian Academy (VCA) was founded by Vyon Rogers with just 13 students. The school joined the School Choice program in 2001 and grew rapidly, becoming a vital ministry tool. Today, VCA serves over 450 students and partners with multiple Apostolic churches, aligning with the church’s vision for collaborative evangelism.

On the Move

Due to VCA’s growth, the school moved to its own building in 2010. In 2013, POW and VCA reunited at a new location in West Allis, and in 2019, they purchased a multi-building campus on Dakota Street in Milwaukee. In 2023, they expanded again, leasing an 13-acre property in Cudahy and began constructing a performing arts center at the Dakota campus, which is now the church’s home.

A New Season

In January 2025, POW became The Haven Ministries—a safe dwelling for the lost and broken to find new life in Jesus. With over 30 years of apostolic heritage, The Haven is stepping into a new season of growth, ready to fulfill its calling “for such a time as this.”

Our Beliefs

The Haven Ministries is a church committed to living as a thriving 21st-century Apostolic church.

We are founded upon the belief that the Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God.

We believe there is only one God (Deuteronomy 6:4 ). He is the creator of heaven and earth, and of all living beings. He has revealed Himself to humanity as the Father (Creator), as the Son (Savior), and as the Holy Ghost (indwelling Spirit).

We believe in water baptism by immersion in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sin. Through baptism we identify with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ (Romans 6:3-6; Colossians 2:11-14; Acts 2:38).

We believe in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with the initial sign of speaking in other tongues (Acts 2:4).

We believe in the manifestation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. He ministers to His people through tongues, interpretation of tongues, prophecy; words of knowledge and wisdom, discerning of spirits, faith, working of miracles, healing, helps and government (Mark 16:15-18; Acts 5:16; 2 Corinthians 12:1-11).

We believe in the Great Commission and are endeavoring to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with love, mercy, and compassion (Matthew 28:19).
